The other day I stopped by the Dollar Store for a few specific items. As I browsed a lady asked me if I knew if they had any small mirrors. I had just picked one up myself so I directed her to them. The lady seemed to follow me around the store. It was kind of strange. Then she spoke to me again and said, I really need to ask you a question. She told me she was a battered wife running away. She then asked me if I would purchase 3 items for her before she got on a bus. She had a pack of cookies and a pack of crackers and the mirror. She said I can put the mirror back and she did. I told her I would. In my head I said, “God, why does she need a mirror?” He said to me, “She has no home.” When I purchased the items I put my mirror in her bag. I said “God bless you.” She said, “Please just pray for me.” Her name was Eileen.

There was something I would have done differently. I was nervous and suspecting. There was a guy just leaning on a wall watching us and fooling around with his phone. The thought drifted across my mind…what if they are together just seeing if I have a debit card? What if this is a set-up? The society we live in makes us suspect people’s motives. But if I could do it again I would have had a more caring attitude and prayed for her right outside the door. I would have taken time to talk to her a few moments. Just helping someone is good. Doing it like Jesus would have in a caring, concerned way is better. That is what I would have done differently. What would you have done?
