There are patterns of behavior that are detrimental to our own well being and to others. Let’s compare them to different types of shoes. Which one are you?

The Combat Boot

The combat boot personality is controlling and militant. Folks like this get what they want through intimidation and manipulation. Combat boots don’t really care what others think and they don’t care about the feelings of others. They are loud, abusive and aggressive and they step all over anyone who gets in their way.

The Designer Shoe

Designer shoes dress it all up. They are sheer perfection on the outside. They look great all the time. However, inside they are hurting and lonely. The designer shoe is rarely authentic because they are putting on a façade. They are usually very fearful that someone will find out they really don’t know what they are doing. They are also afraid people won’t like them if they show their real personality. This hurts you and others because you miss out on friendships and intimacy.

The Slipper

The slipper personality relies on themselves to make improvements or get better in life but then they slip back into old patterns of behaviors or lingering addictions. The slipper doesn’t rely on God for their progress and that is the reason they slip into what’s comfortable. We can’t make genuine progress until we give God control over our future.

The Flip Flop

The flip flop doesn’t take anything serious. They are a joker and they use humor to cover up whatever is really bothering them. The flip flop doesn’t open up to others and they laugh off anything serious because then they would need to face hurtful things from their past. Make a joke of it! That’s the motto they live by.

The Loafer

The loafer is lazy and extremely undependable. They get bored with life easily. They may have big dreams but do nothing to make them come to fruition. Loafers may tell you all the time, “Let’s get together,” but they never call. Loafers tend to be whiners as well so they do not make the best companions.

What About the Tennis Shoe?

Well, tennis shoes are great to wear! They are comfortable. You can walk or run in them. Tennis shoe personalities are comfortable in their own skin and they like who they are! This type of personality makes for a great friend because when you have a problem, they come running! Tennis shoes are great for walking and they know their footsteps are ordered by the Lord.

So the next time you put on a shoe think about your personality. What do you do to cover up? How are you treating others around you? Trusting God for your progress is the first step! And with God, you are stepping out in style!
